If you own a device that has the CH340 or CH341 USB to Serial chip to communicate with your mac and after updating to version 10.11.2 (El Capitan) your board is suddenly not detected, please download the updated drivers.

This chip is quite common in cheap Chinese Arduino Nano and Uno clones. Since June 2015, in collaboration with WCH, the manufacturer of the chip, we were the first worldwide to offer drivers that were working with OSX Yosemite and later El Capitain. The update of El Capitan to 10.11.2 broke the previously offered drivers.

The drivers now available work in all OSX versions starting from 10.6.

  1. Unfortunately, the latest CH340 drivers are causing a 100% reproducible kernel panic for me whenever a device gets plugged in.

    • We haven’t ever seen a kernel panic with these drivers and we have tested a good number of boards on OSX 10.6 to 10.11.2. Mind sending a ticket to support? Don’t forget to also let us know the name of your board.

  2. My FTDI driver remains broken so I can’t use my Genuine Adrunios. This fix did work for the CH340 but not for the FTDI.

Could you fix this? I filed a supprt request.

    • Updating the CH340 drivers didn’t change anything to the FTDI ones so if you’re having problems we’ll be glad to see what we can do with that. Please make sure you sent us at support@codebender.cc if you haven’t already.

  3. Driver reinstallation is not possible with the current website. If the drivers are already installed, the “download drivers” link (page 3 of getting started) quickly disappears and the site goes to the testing phase (page 4). I could not re-download the drivers.

    • Hey Jeff! You get redirected to the testing page because we detect that you have already successfully installed the drivers. You can always download the latest version of the Mac OS X driver installer here.
