Codeanywhere acquires codebender!

We’re excited to announce that codebender has been acquired by Codeanywhere!

We launched codebender 4 years ago to make it easier for you to develop Arduino code and build your next amazing gizmo, product, or hobby project. Since then, we’ve had 100,000 people use codebender, and more than 300,000 projects hosted on the platform.

Codeanywhere is a Cross-Platform Cloud Integrated Development Environment (IDE). That saves developers time, by enabling them to access code from any device, spin up a development environment in seconds, and enables them to share their files, folders or entire development environments to collaborate together in real time.

When we decided to shut down codebender.cc and focus on more professional markets, a few companies approached us with an offer to take over codebender under their wing. One of those people was Ivan Burazin, the CEO of Codeanywhere, who offered to continue to provide the product we’ve all come to love, and keep improving it with the same DNA & great functionality Codeanywhere has. We spoke at length, and it was clear for us that this was definitely a great thing for our users, all you people who have showed us so much love, honored us with your choice all these years, and made this all worth it.

What does this mean for you?

First of all, codebender will mostly remain the same. It will continue to operate as a standalone service, so you don’t have to change the way you are currently using codebender. However, it will transition to a monthly subscription service. This means that you will be able to use it for free for 1 month (as a trial, beginning on June 1st, or for the first month after registration), and it will then cost $10/month to keep using it. This is the price to pay for keeping codebender alive and sustainable, and it’s a small one, really.

Secondly, Codeanywhere intends to keep adding more and more features, the same way we have been adding features, libraries, and board support in the past few years. So you can expect codebender to keep improving with time, much as it did until now.

Stay tuned over the coming months! This is a big step for our community, and we’re excited to have you onboard. I personally would like to thank you all for your support, you’ve kept us running all these years.
